The 1940s at Sunset

I decided to have an adventure. I was having a bad day, I felt like I was drowning so I escaped my world and wandered towards familiar places. This was my first stop. I’ve always loved Damariscotta, it’s a cute little town in coastal Maine, which has an awesome second-hand bookstore – I mean, that’s not the only reason I like it, but it helps.

I’m getting braver, day by day. The Misha from a year ago would never have been brave enough to stand on Main Street for these pictures with a hustle of cars passing by. The Misha of a year ago would have feared too much what others might have thought. The Misha of now doesn’t care so much. It is weird how much changes in a year. I’ve been journaling since I was twelve, on and off, but I’ve always loved going back in time to see where I was a year ago. It’s easier this year to remember where I was last year – this crazy time of living in a dystopian novel (only a mild version) has made memories stick better. I’m very grateful of the progress I have made – especially in the being true to myself aspect.

These wide leg pants are a throw back to the 1940s, I’ve craved a pair of pants like these since watching Christmas in Conneticut (the original) and admiring the leading lady’s pants. I was probably six at the time. I go through waves of wanting to wear only vintage or vintage inspired pieces and then out of ease I fall back into my melange of clothing. It might seem like I don’t have a defined fashion style, but I wear what I like and what I feel powerful in – that’s what my fashion style is – it’s me.
