Catch a Falling Snowflake

The first big snow of the season, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. The harbor was riddled with families -children joyfully sledding down the hill, couples walking hand in hand, and the stray friend meeting long-forgotten neighbors – in the park.

Before anyone has to ask, yes, I lost all feeling in my fingers for these pictures. Never again. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking, I had gloves with me. What on earth made me decide to throw snow with bare hands? I shall never know, perhaps it was that the cold had temporarily damaged my brain. We’ll never know.

Anyways, I used to have a tradition, the first snow of the year earned a late night walk. There is something extra magical about snow falling in the dark, the snowflakes dancing by street lights and only an occasional car to break the silence. This year, it didn’t happen. Instead, the day after I dressed up and wandered to the harbor. Snow is still magical in the day light, but I missed my walk. I suppose the next time it snows, I should venture outside before the weather turns, snow melts, and flowers start to peep up. Of course, I do live in Maine, so I have plenty of time.
