Marshall Point Lighthouse

I have had this location on my mind for a while. I’d never taken pictures here before, but the picture-perfect lighthouse is something that I just couldn’t resist. So, I made the hour drive out to Marshall Point Lighthouse one winter’s afternoon. It was quiet, with only an occasional passerby. The cold was bearable, which is why I managed so many pictures vs. what my normal quantity is for a winter outfit shoot.

Outfit Details: Jacket (Kohl’s) Scarf (TJmaxx) Dress & Beret (Amazon) Earrings & Heels (ModCloth) Necklace & Ring (Vintage)

I’m trying to embrace my love for style. I say style, not fashion because in my mind fashion dictates trends and comings and goings of pieces, but your style remains as long as you let it, no matter the age and no matter the season. I’ve loved vintage and edgy pieces longer than I can remember. Besides the obvious hindrance of 2020, I faced a battle against my sense of fashion vs what others thought I should be wearing. I bent to the pressure and put away my puffy skirts and black tops. But, recently, I’ve been working on bouncing back to clothes I love.

Dressing to someone else’s tastes can hinder you in unexpected ways. Regrowing after that is something different entirely. I have always loved clothes, I love the power they give to express yourself in ways that words can’t. Growing up in a small town, dressing up in fancy dresses and heels was weird. When others saw that kind of outfit, they questioned where one was going or commented on how one was much too overdressed. Let’s not even talk about how many people said I was wearing too much makeup. It was frowned upon; and I have grown to find such worldly judgment silly, despite how difficult it is to get out from under its grasp. For that reason, I think it’s important to encourage people to wear what they love. Even if it’s consider a faux pas or it’s outside of cultural norms. Variety is a good thing.
